I want to thank you for the excellent job you did on my income tax audit for the year ending Dec 99.
That was a complicated year for me since I had declared trader tax status in my 1998 filing, so the auditor would be questioning how I qualified according to the applicable, complicated set of rules. I also had significant medical deductions in that time period and they were used to offset an IRA withdrawal. When I first received notice of the audit, I was very upset since I had undergone a total audit just 2 years ago. When I started preparing for it, I felt quite overwhelmed on how to handle the trader portion. I knew that I could be charged with additional taxes and penalties, not only if I were incorrect, but also if I couldn't totally defend my deductions because I didn't have the knowledge of the trading rules. So, even though your office handled my taxes that year and I was convinced that they were a correct representation of my income and deductions, I knew that I could still end up paying taxes if I didn't have the capability of explaining the tax status and the deductions correctly. When I decided to turn over the audit to you, I felt such a breath of relief. Your office handled it efficiently and you minimized the work that I was responsible for. By having such an in-depth knowledge of the tax code as it relates to trading, you were able to deal with the auditor and confirm that I both met the qualifications for trader status and filed correctly. I just received notice of "no change", meaning that the audit is over and I owe nothing additional. Thank you for your work on my behalf.
